The 3 PILLARS of the Tree of Life
Set consists of 3
forks. There is one fork for each Pillar on the Tree
of Life: Destruction, Creation and Harmony.
Below is a brief definition
of each Pillar of the Tree. There are many wonderful books that delve into the deeper meanings
of each Pillar and their relationships to other parts of the
Tree.
LEFT Pillar - Pillar of SEVERITY-DESTRUCTION.
This is the black feminine pillar of passivity, form, contraction,
restriction, matter, and is the negative pole of the Tree. The
sephira Binah, Geburah and Hod comprise this pillar.
RIGHT
Pillar - Pillar
of MERCY-CREATION. This is the white masculine pillar of
activity, force, expansion, movement, energy, and is the positive
pole of the Tree. The sephira of Chokmah, Chesed and Netzach
comprise this pillar.
MIDDLE
Pillar - Pillar
of MILDNESS-HARMONY. This is the central pillar of no charge
of cosmic awareness, consciousness, equilibrium, stillness, and
the neutral pole of the Tree. It is living in the Here and Now.
The sephira of Keter, Tipheret, Yesod and Malkuth comprise this
pillar. The non-sephira Da'ath is also on this Pillar.
The Pillars are a diagrammatic
representation of the 3 forces of all Life: positive
+, negative -, and neutral 0.
The positive and negative
pillars, and the sephira on them, are polarities of
one another and are constantly trying to counterbalance each
other. The opposing horizontal pairs, e.g. Chesed and Geburah,
are natural opposites of one another. For example, one
of the characteristics of Netzach is that of unbridled emotions,
while Hod is pure intellectual thought. Another way to look at
it is that these pairs compliment one another and are
in fact, two different sides of the same coin. If our
unbridled emotions were never in check by the intellect, they
would rage out of control. So one must exist for the other to
exist.
The neutral pillar
is the path of Balance and Harmony. The sephira on this
pillar create a direct, unencumbered journey of equilibrium through
the Tree of Life. Malkuth is our physical life, while Keter is
our ascension into the Light, the all that is. Along the way,
whether going up and going down the pillar, you feel a grounded
foundation under your feet in Yesod and love and beauty in Tiphereth.
The path of Severity
is what Willaim G. Gray calls the Hermetic Path. This
is the path followed by those who perfer a ritualized, formalized
and intellectual way of walking through the world. "It
is the way of caution, scientific application, and painstaking
research" (Qabalistic Concepts, William G. Gray).
The path of Mercy is what Gray calls the Orphic Path.
This is the path followed by those who cannot be bound by tradition
and convention. It is the path of the free spirit individualist.
"It is the path of emotion and pure ungarded feeling"
(Qabalistic Concepts, William G. Gray). It is easy
to see that no one person is characteristic of one or the other
exclusively. We live our life journey typically bouncing back
and forth between the two, occasionally landing on the central
path of Equilibrium for moments at a time. As we grow in
consciousness, we will be able to live more and more of our physical
life on the middle pillar, being aware of the polar opposites
and yet not getting caught up in them. Another way to look at
it is a wagon wheel. When you are on the outside of the wheel
and the wheel is turning, it can be a rough ride with fast speed
and no time to figure out where you want to go. On the other
hand, by sitting in the center of the wheel, you can perceive
the motion, but don't have to get caught up in it. From this
balanced, stillness, all of life can be perceived and therefore
experienced.
The Kabbalah
Tree of Life is a map of the soul/human journey and experience
toward enlightened conscio usness.
It is a picture of how Nothing becomes Everything, which
ultimately becomes physical matter; and vice versa, how
physical matter ultimately becomes Everything which then
becomes Nothing.
In all of time... in the
past, present and future... we are somewhere in the Tree,
experiencing a moment, then moving to another moment in time
to another place in the Tree. It is a personal journey,
and yet also a universal journey. It is the journey
to understand ourself, our relationships, our planet and the
cosmos in relation to the Creator of the All-That-Is.
It is a physical representation
of the stepdown process through each Sephirah where a
differentiated Spectrum appears. The stepdown of visible
color begins
with KETER. And so the Tree of Life is formed. |
Anne Christine Tooley
determined the frequencies using Gematria. The word "gematria"
comes from the Greek word geometria having the dual meaning
"earth-measure" and "geometry." It is the
mystical numerology of the Hebrew language and Hebrew alphabet,
and is used to derive meaning or relative relationship. Gematria
reveals the truths and hidden meanings behind Hebrew words.
It feels to me to be a sacred encoding and the experience of
the encoded frequency can open one to a deeper understanding
of the Kabbalah and ultimately Oneself. |
