Soaking in a warm tub with the
luscious scents of pure essential oils, candl es
lit, soothing music playing... theres nothing like it!
Contrary to what many think, this is not selfish indulgence nor
a waste of time. This is taking care of yourself. This is
health.
Research now shows a direct
relationship between mental, emotional health and spiritual health,
widely referred to as the bodymind connection. We are
now beginning to understand that there is intelligence everywhere
in the body, not just the brain. An intricate language exists
in the various systems of the body, down to the DNA at the cellular
level. This language accounts for complex actions and responses
within the physical body that affect emotions, thoughts and transcendental
experiences.
Quite simply, when we
stimulate our sense nature while in a peaceful, relaxed state,
we are communicating with the essence of ourselves which is always
in a state of health and wellbeing. The more we communicate with
what is inherently healthy within us, the more the entire system
is invited back into its rightful place of health.
BATH & SHOWER
Engaging the senses of
smell and touch at the same time is especially nice. Soaking
in a warm tub of luscious oil scents is a heavenly way of nourishing
the body, mind and emotions.
Add 3-6 d rops
of your favorite essential oil to warm bath water after the tub
is filled and just before getting into the tub, as the oils aromas
are quickly released from the warmth of the water. Gently stir
the water to disperse oil droplets over the surface. The stirring
combined with the heat of the water will evaporate the scent
into the air. Light some candles, play your favorite music and
soak while taking in deep breaths from time to time. Nothing
could be finer!

Bath salts combined with pure essential
oils create a truly luxurious experience. Epsom salts have a
detoxifying action as well as being soothing to tired and sore
muscles. Pure sea salt also has a detoxifying action. Soak in
a tub for fifteen to twenty minutes while the salts and essential
oils pull toxins from the body through the skin. Oils which detoxify
are Juniper, Helichrysum, Release and JuvaFlex.
Put 6-10 drops in 1 cup of a combination of Epsom Salt and Sea
Salt.
A wonderful, refreshing
way to use essential oils is in a shower splash, as they
naturally cleanse the body. First, fill a 2 ½-3-quart
ceramic or glass bowl with very warm water. Add 12-20 drops of
your favorite essential oil s.
Step in the shower and cleanse personal areas with soap. Then
scrub the entire body except the face with a loofa, brush or
sea salt to remove dead skin cells and stimulate circulation.
Rinse and turn off water. Gently stirring the mixture with your
hand, take a cupful at a time and slowly pour the mixture over
the body from the neck (do not get mixture into eyes). Do the
front, back, and each side at least once, leaving a little of
the mixture in the bowl. Step out of the shower and pat dry.
Soak a clean washcloth with the remaining mixture and squeeze
out excess. Gently clean inside each nostril and then the face
and neck being careful to go gently around the eyes. Finally
clean each ear inside and out (the ear reflexes to the entire
body).

FLORAL WATERS
& HYDROLATES
Hydrolates are created as essential oils
are extracted thro ugh
the distillation process. As steam is sent through a plant material,
the steam condenses into both water and essential oil. Since
water and oil do not mix, the essential oil is separated and
what remains is called a hydrolate. Hydrolates contain
the water-soluble essence of the plant in fluid form. They in
fact retain a small amount of essential oil which is highly dispersed
within the water.
Young Living offers the
following exquisite hydrolates:
- Clary Sage
- German Chamomile
- Idaho Tansy
- Lavender
- Melissa (Lemon Balm)
- Peppermint
- Red Cedar
- Spearmint
Floral Water is water to which essential oils
have been added. Here's a basic Floral Water recipe:
- In a 4 oz. glass bottle,
add 1/2 teaspoon of Vodka
- Add 20 drops of your
favorite essential oil & shake vigorously
- Let rest for 30 minutes
or more
- Add distilled or purified
water leaving a little space a the top. Shake vigorously.
- Allow mixture to sit
in cool, dark location for at least one week.
Voila! You now have a
natural, fresh floral water! Shake b efore
dispensing. Floral waters have a limited shelf life, so only
make as much as you will use in a week or two. To extend shelf
life for several weeks, keep toilet water in the refigerator.
Floral waters and hydrolates are wonderful
used on the skin as a toner. Rose, Lavender and Neroli
(orange blossom) are typically used as toners for enhancing the
complexion. Simply moisten a cotton ball and gently wipe the
skin, while only patting around the delicate eye area.
Floral waters and hydrolates may also
be added to bath water to impart a delicate floral scent or splashed
on after a shower. Or they may be used as the fluid in the recipe
for facial masks. Anoth er
lovely way to utilize floral waters is to mist them onto the
skin for instant hydration. Spraying a floral mist and then
applying your favorite cream or oil will help the skin absorb
the cream or oil more deeply. No matter how you use floral
waters and hydrolates, you will experience a lovely
light scent and the signature essence of the original plant.
SCENT ED CANDLES
Creating scented candles
is easy. Simply purchase an unscented candle, preferrably made
with beeswax. Light the candle and wait for a pool of melted
was to form. Add 1-3 drops (depending on width of candle) into
the melted was. Enjoy! |
